Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Health Fahad Al-Jalajel received a Guinness World Record certificate for the Diabeter Center in Al-Ahsa, which specializes in treating Type 1 diabetes patients.

Saudi Arabia’s looming diabetes disaster
Over the next ten years, one in four Saudis will be at risk of having a fatal heart attack, according to a study by a team of researchers led by Muhammad Adil Soofi, assistant consultant in the adult cardiology department at Prince Salman Heart Center, King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh.
Of the 4,900 urban-dwelling Saudis monitored by the team, 26% were at high risk of having a heart attack in the next decade. Those in the cohort did not have a history of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and were between the ages of 20 and 40.
These alarming results were presented last week at the 26th Annual Conference of the Saudi Heart Association.

MENA region has highest diabetes rates in the world
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region has been found to have the highest prevalence of diabetes in the world, according to a report yesterday by the Daily Mail, citing the latest research.
According to figures compiled by Our World in Data, using data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), countries in the MENA dominate the list of the top 20 countries with the worst diabetes rates. The study measured the prevalence of diabetes among populations aged 20-79 in 211 countries.
Although South Asian country Pakistan topped the list with 31 per cent of the population having the condition, followed by French Polynesia, Gulf state Kuwait was in third position at 24.9 per cent.

JEDDAH: The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) is raising awareness and promoting a health program ahead of World Diabetes day on Nov. 14.
